Colorado Avalanche at Phoenix Coyotes

The Av’s have struggled on the road all year and they’re also coming off a home loss to the Kings and those two things combined do not make them a very appealing favorite. Throw in the fact that they’re still missing Sakic and Arnason and this group is very beatable. The Coyotes went on a huge run before losing three in a row but let’s have a look at those three losses. They lost to Vancouver by a goal upon returning home from a six-game trip. They lost to the Wild by a goal but out-shot them 48-26 and finally they lost to the juggernaut Red Wings by two goals but Detroit scored an empty netter. A close look shows that the Coyotes could have won all three and they were especially impressive in the last two. Despite the three losses, Phoenix is in excellent form and has been for the entire month and it says here they’ll get rewarded tonight for their great work ethic and determination.

The last three times the Coyotes have hosted the Avalanache, all three went Over with an average of nearly 8 goals per game. Play the Over once again tonight in Phoenix. The Under has been very profitable for the Colorado Avalanche on the road this season but when they face the Coyotes there are a lot of goals scored. Phoenix has also been profitable with the Under in their last 10 games but expect a different type of game tonight. The two teams have played over the total in seven straight meetings. The last three meetings in Phoenix have played the Over with the teams combining to score 7, 9 and 7 goals per game. Look for the high scoring trend to continue tonight.

Taking Phoenix (+1.5);
Over!
Good luck!

New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have zero appeal as a big favorite or even a small one for that matter. Carolina has been hovering around .500 all year and that’s probably not going to change much the rest of the way. Defensively, they’re a breakdown waiting to happen and their goaltending remains as inconsistent as any team in the league. Cam Ward will have a good game and follow it up by getting yanked the next game. What we do know is that we’ll get a strong effort from the Islanders because they always come to play. Furthermore, the Islanders are warming up again with four wins in their last five with only loss over that stretch coming against the Senators. Furthermore, the Islanders have snapped an ugly offensive funk they were in by scoring 18 goals over their last five and that includes a 5-spot over the Devils.

Playing on New York (+1.5)!
Good luck!
