The Jazz just hosted, and beat, Detroit at the Delta Center Wednesday night, setting the table for tonight’s fray. This is a big game for both teams but its arguably bigger for the Panthers. That's because if the season finished today, Boston would be in the playoffs while Florida would not be. The Panthers should be happy to be back at home as they haven't played here very often this month. In fact, they've played seven road games in February but just three at home. They won two of those three home games, most recently a 4-2 win over the Capitals.

The teams have split two games this season but the Panthers took the most recent, winning 6-3 on 02/09. Bruins goalie Tim Thomas got shelled in that game, falling to 1-5-1 with an ugly 4.86 goals-against average in seven career games against the Panthers. Naturally, the Bruins would love to avenge that defeat. However, it should be mentioned that over the past three seasons, they're just 39-76 (-31.4) when facing a team which defeated them in the previous meeting. The Bruins won their most recent game, 3-2 vs. Carolina. They very nearly suffered a major collapse along the way though, as they squandered a 2-goal lead in the final 63 seconds of the third period, before eventually winning in overtime. Note that the Bruins haven't won two games in a row this entire month.

Miami Heat at Houston Rockets

With Shaq in the desert and Shawn Marion now bringing his athletic style to South Beach, I believe Miami is in "buy" mode. The team is much better with their current lineup. Marion averaged 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 steals per game in his first three outings with the Heat. Meanwhile, although the Rockets won at Cleveland on Tuesday, Tracy McGrady has been in a cold-funk and Yao Ming didn't fare to well himself, in the win. In fact, McGrady is barely topping 12 PPG on 31% shooting in his last five outings. Houston has been getting solid play from the supporting cast, but with T-Mac off his game, they should NOT be laying double-digits against a Heat squad that just got much better due to the Marion/Shaq trade mentioned above. I'm "buying" the Heat and taking the points with the double-digit pup.

Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik lost five units of blood, but doctors never considered his life in jeopardy after the player had his carotid artery nearly severed by a teammate's skate in a freak and frightening accident.

Zednik underwent an hour of surgery to reconnect the artery Sunday night and was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Buffalo General Hospital on Monday. He was awake and cooperative with the medical staff, doctors said. Prior to surgery, doctors noted that Zednik's blood pressure was dropping, and there was also swelling around the cut making it difficult to breath. Doctors put a tube in his neck to open an airway.

Zednik will remain in the ICU at least one more day, but it is uncertain when he will be discharged and allowed to return to Florida. It will be six to eight weeks before he can return to normal activity. He signed with the Panthers as a free agent last summer. After a two-month slump, he has been playing well. He entered the game on a four-game point streak, in which he had six goals and three assists, giving him 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists) in 54 games this season.

Boston Celtics at Indiana Pacers

Since January 2005, the San Antonio Spurs have been the best team in the NBA, and have won two championships in that span. Recent results have give us solid value with the visitors. While the Blazers have been struggling, the Rockets come in on a roll. That's not necessarily a positive for Houston though. Saturday's blowout win over Atlanta notwithstanding, the Rockets are still a poor 13-23-3 ATS since 2005 after having won three or more consecutive games. During the same stretch, the Rockets are also an ugly 40-67-2 ATS when playing at home. The Blazers, 16-11 ATS when facing an opponent which defeated them in the previous meeting, will be playing with "double-revenge" as they've already lost to the Rockets twice this season. We successfully played against the Blazers in their last game, a loss at Indiana. However, they were playing the second of back games and were without Brandon Roy in the lineup. With Roy expected to make his return, expect a much better effort from revenge-minded Porltand tonight.
