Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks
The Flames jumped on the Sharks early last night with a pair of quick goals. The Sharks battled back to make it 2-1 and were carrying play when the Flames added their third goal. Two of Calgary's three goals were reviewed and I feel that the lengthy delays served to further kill the Sharks' momentum and to take the fans out of the game.
While I respect the Flames, I also feel that the Sharks, now 15-5 their last 20, are among the best teams in the entire league. Knowing that falling behind 0-2 would put them in a major hole, I expect the Sharks to respond with a massive effort. The fact that the teams will be playing their second game in two nights should favor San Jose. The Sharks are 3-0 the last three times they played the second of back to back games, knocking off a trio of playoff teams in Anaheim, Minnesota and Philadelphia. Looking back further and we find them at 15-5 the last 20 times that they played the second of back to back games. The Flames have been solid when playing the second of back to back home games. However, they've lost two in row, when playing a road game after having played the previous night, and are 7-8 their last 15 in that situation.
